Vivian A. Charneco, M.D.

Founder & CEO. Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist

Dr. Vivian Charneco is the founder and Medical Director of Mindful Behavioral Healthcare. Dr. Charneco has over 25 years of experience in treating mental health and behavioral conditions. Her initial training in the medical field was in Puerto Rico, where she completed a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico. She completed medical school at the Ponce School of Medicine. Later on, she attended the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she received her psychiatric training and completed a fellowship in Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatry. She also received training in Psychoanalysis at the Philadelphia Psychoanalytic Institute.

Dr. Charneco held different professional roles throughout her career at several setting, both clinical and administrative in nature, where she applied and improved her knowledge in adult, adolescent, and adult psychiatry.

After years of practice in traditional psychiatry, she realized that it was necessary to incorporate a holistic approach in order to integrate mind, body, and spirit. During this quest, she had the opportunity to be trained in Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis techniques by renowned psychiatrist Dr. Brian Weiss, author of the book “Many Lives, Many Masters.”

Dr. Charneco is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, Florida Psychiatric Society, and PanAmerican Medical Association.

Gustavo V. Ruiz, M.D.

Adult Psychiatrist

Dr. Gustavo Ruiz is an innovative bilingual (English-Spanish) psychiatrist with more than 15 years of proven clinical experience evaluating and treating patients with psychiatric and psychological disorders. He has expertise working in mental health institutes, public and private hospitals, primary care centers, and clinics.

Dr. Ruiz studied Medicine at the Puerto Rico Institute of Psychiatry, where he completed his residency in psychiatry. He has in-depth knowledge in treating and managing different age groups such as children, adults, and geriatric patients.

Luis J. Olivera-Rodriguez, M.D.

Board Certified Psychiatrist

Dr. Luis Olivera-Rodriguez is a Board Certified General Psychiatrist with more than 5 years of experience in the treatment of psychiatric and psychological conditions. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Science and a Master in Public Health at the Medical Sciences Campus from the University of Puerto Rico. He later obtained his Doctorate Degree in Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, and a residency in General Psychiatry from that same institution. He is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Florida Psychiatric Society. Dr. Olivera is one of the few psychiatrists trained in the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) program, an innovative treatment modality currently being used to successfully treat patients suffering from Major Depression.  

Dr. Olivera is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and has vast experience attending all populations from different cultural backgrounds, with a special interest in geriatric patients. He likes to integrate all aspects of a patient’s health into his treatment techniques by using pharmacogenetic testing to evaluate which medications are best according to his patients’ conditions. Dr. Olivera is now a proud member of the Mindful Behavioral Healthcare’s professional team.

Dr. Miguel Meléndez, M.D.

General Practitioner with Psychiatric Experience in Adults and Certification in Treating Opioid Dependency with the Medication Suboxone

Dr. Miguel Meléndez is a bilingual (English-Spanish) physician with over 15 years of experience in the field of general medicine. He has worked in various settings including emergency rooms, primary care clinics, and psychiatric hospitals. Since 2005, Dr. Melendez provided services at the First Hospital Panamericano in Cidra, Puerto Rico where he gained valuable experience treating patients with psychiatric conditions.

He was a distinguished board member of the Movement for Attaining Independent Living (MAVI) for people with developmental disabilities and lobbied funds in Washington D.C. on behalf of this center. Dr. Miguel is a hard-working, ethical professional who enjoys helping those in need and is now a proud member of Mindful Behavioral Healthcare.

Dr. Nasim David, M.D.

Pediatrician with Mental Health Experience

Dr. Nasim David is a bilingual (English-Spanish) Pediatrician with over 35 years of substantive clinical experience. Dr. Nasim received his Cum Laude Medical Degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic, and completed his pediatric residency at the Jose N. Gandara Regional Hospital in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He was Director of the Pediatrics Department at Tricoche Hospital in Ponce, Puerto Rico, professor at the Center for Education and Development of Homeopathy in Puerto Rico and now a proud member of Mindful Behavioral Healthcare.

His primary focus in the area of pediatrics is diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases, as well as children’s growth and development. Dr. Nasim’s expertise ranges from programs in Ob-Gyn, surgery, sports, internal medicine and pediatric emergency care. The principle that always guided Dr. David in his years of experience as a pediatrician has been to give the best care to his patients, their families and the community.

Roger Rivera, ARNP

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. After 6 years of military service, I moved to Puerto Rico to pursue a medical career.  I attained my baccalaureate degree in Nursing in the Inter-American university of Puerto Rico. Afterwards attaining my Family Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus, subsequently specialization in surgery.  After 2 years of working in Washington DC, I decided to move to Orlando, and could not be any happier. I am very passionate in my desire and ability to help others, and continue to strive daily to better prepare myself in doing so. With Over 11 years’ experience of working as a healthcare professional, it is a pleasure to now be a part of BMH and serve the central Florida community.  

Beverly Howard, ARNP

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner

Beverley Howard is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner who is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She earned her graduate degree as an advanced practice nurse, specializing in family nurse practice from South University, Tampa, Florida. Ms. Howard has more than twenty-years nursing experience, with much of her practice in critical care nursing, gerontology, and emergency medical nursing.

As an advanced registered nurse practitioner Ms. Howard, has worked as a hospitalist, in primary care and gastroenterology. She is also experienced as a nursing educator and instructor. Ms. Howard is currently enrolled at Regis College Online, Post Master’s Program for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with an expected graduation date, April 2019.

Deborah Rivera, Ph.D., L.M.H.C.

Dr. Deborah Rivera is a bilingual (English-Spanish) psychotherapist who has over 20 years experience providing therapeutic services in outpatient, inpatient, residential settings and correctional facilities. She has a doctoral degree in General Psychology and a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology.

Dr. Rivera believes in the human potential to deal and overcome psychological conditions.  She has worked with most areas of mental health, and has seen that building trust- a strong rapport, providing support, and teaching the necessary strategies to patients, help them reduce clinical symptoms, maintain emotional stability, function better in general, and achieve their goals in life.

Dr.Rivera’s  dissertations at the doctoral and master levels were about “schizophrenic thought” and “alcoholism”; respectively. Dr. Rivera has vast experience with patients diagnosed with Major Psychiatric Disorders (Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorders, Major Depressive Disorders), alcoholism, and drug abuse-dependence. She also has extensive clinical experience with children, adolescents and adults diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.  Her eclectic approach to psychotherapy includes:  psycho education, Insight oriented, supportive, cognitive-behavioral therapy, as well as behavioral strategies according to the needs of the treated population.

Rosa Beltré, L.C.S.W.

Phychoterapist, Children, Adolescents & Adults

Rosa Beltre is a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker and psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience providing mental health services in residential, outpatient, inpatient and crisis unit services to adults and children in New York and Florida. She has a bachelor’s degree from Queens College in Psychology and Women Studies as well as a Master’s degree from Hunter College School of Social Work with a Concentration in Case and Group Work. Ms. Beltre is also an Acupuncture Detox Specialist with extensive experience in the area of addiction and a registered hypnotherapist. She has provided social services and missionary work in Latin America, West Africa and Ghana.

Ms. Beltre uses an eclectic approach to treat her patients by providing insight oriented, cognitive behavioral and psycho-dynamic therapy. She is also passionate about working with patients suffering from severe and persistent conditions such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, by treating each case as a unique one as a way of helping each individual accomplish their maximum potential during their therapeutic process.

Yesenia Diaz, M.A.

Mrs. Diaz is a bilingual (English-Spanish) mental health counselor with over 15 years of experience in the mental health industry. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico and a Master’s in Psychology Counseling from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico.

Throughout her career, she has worked with a variety of demographics including children, adolescents, adults, families, couples in various outpatient and inpatient settings.

Her psychotherapy approach includes; insight oriented psychoeducation, supportive cognitive behavioral therapy, and behavioral strategies. She believes in the importance of a guidance process during challenging stages of life and having an accessible means to impact quality of life for everyone. She is now a proud member of the Mindful Behavioral Healthcare’s professional team.

Miriam L. Candelaria, L.M.H.C.

Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Qualified Supervisor for Mental Health

Ms. Candelaria has an enormous wealth of work history and experience, inclusive of but not limited to: mental health counseling, mentoring, paralegal/legal, military, psycho- therapy, group facilitation, clinical therapy, criminal investigation, computer analysis, and even serving as adjunct professor for the Miami-Dade College.

She has worked with children, adolescents, adults, families, couples/divorce, immigrants, geriatrics, victims/aggressors of domestic violence, addicts and multicultural populations across the state of Florida. She is extremely passionate about placing her patients first by using a variety of clinical and behavioral techniques. She trusts in her patients’ inherent strengths and abilities to help them become aware of their conditions and search for the proper treatment solution. Her desire to serve has led her to Mindful Behavioral Healthcare to continue applying her knowledge in the mental health area.

Jerry Summerfield, L.M.H.C.

Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Qualified Supervisor for Mental Health

Jerry Summerfield, M.ED, LMHC has been providing mental health and substance abuse counseling services since 2010. Jerry graduated with his Masters in Education in 2012, with an emphasis in Counseling and Human Services- Mental Health Counseling. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor by the State of Florida, a National Certified Counselor by the National Board for Certified Counselors and is also a Certified Case Manager from the Commission for Case Manager Certification.

Jerry is passionate about helping individuals who need to make changes to deal with life on life’s terms. During his counseling career he has worked with homeless veterans, children and families, foster families, adolescents in the juvenile probation system, and men and women with substance abuse issues.

Jerry works from a client centered, trauma informed, and needs based holistic philosophy. He holds certifications in the trauma treatments of EMDR and TF-CBT. His specializations include: trauma in children and adults, childhood attachment issues, mood and anxiety disorders (Depression, Bi-polar, Anxiety, PTSD), LGBT+ issues, men’s issues, and substance abuse and co-occurring diagnosis. With children, he utilizes art and play therapy to help the child to learn new skills, learn how to effectively express themselves, and develop healthy social interaction.

Brenda Santos, L.C.S.W.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

​Mrs.Santos is a fully bilingual (English/Spanish)​ Licensed Clinical Social Worker who earned her Master’s Degree from Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico. She has over 16 years of experience providing clinical ​services in hospices, hospitals, nursing homes and community programs.​

Her areas of interest include end of life, hospice care, caregiver support,​ as well as Neuro-degenerative and Neuro cognitive therapy. S​he specializes in providing counseling services ​to patients suffering from depression,​ anxiety and ​other emotional disorders through an eclectic treatment ​approach using cognitive behavioral, psycho-dynamic and psycho-education therapies.  In this way,​ the ​client and counselor journey together to find the tools that will allow for growth and wellness.

Rachel Banner, L.M.H.C.

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Ms. Banner is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with National Board Certification. Rachel received her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Barry University and has experience working in a variety of healthcare settings from Inpatient to Private Practice. Rachel’s education, training and experience have helped to provide her with a holistic view of the mental health field lending a unique perspective to her counseling style.

Rachel is passionate about helping others and works with individuals and families to find peace within themselves and their relationships so they can live happier and healthier lives. During her counseling career Rachel has worked with adults struggling with substance abuse, men and women in crisis and children and families dealing with various mental health issues specifically anxiety and depression. 

Rachel works from a client centered, practical approach, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused techniques. She believes in the importance of helping clients change their thinking and/or behavior patterns in order to transform their way of life. Rachel’s desire to work with a variety of populations has led her to our Team here at Mindful Behavioral Healthcare.

Maxi Dillon, L.M.H.C.

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Maxi Dillon has more than eight years of combined experience providing therapeutic services in outpatient, inpatient, and residential settings.  She received her Bachelor of Art Degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida. She went on to receive her Master’s of Art Degree in Counseling with a Dual Specialization in Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy from Barry University. She is currently licensed in the state of Florida as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.


During her career, she has had extensive experience providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families in both individual and group settings. She has worked in child welfare, mental health facilities treating major psychiatric disorders, and has managed Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient substance abuse treatment programs for both adolescents and adults. Ms. Dillon treats a wide variety of disorders, which include various mood and anxiety disorders, poor self esteem, substance use disorders, relationship discord, stress and anger management, emotion regulation, domestic violence, parental counseling, mental health assessments, etc.


Ms. Dillon uses an eclectic approach to treat her patients by providing insight-oriented, cognitive behavioral and solution focused therapy. “It is my belief that you are the CEO and author of your life.
